Divine Devotion: What Does It Mean to Love God?
It’s Faith Friday! Listen and be inspired by Mark 12:28-31 and 1 John 4:20, which helps us understand what it means to wholeheartedly love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. See the verses below and let’s ponder some things together.
Mark 12: 28-31 “One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
1 John 4:20 “If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?”
Some questions to ponder:
- What must I remove from my life that keeps me from wholeheartedly loving God?
- What do I need to examine in my heart that keeps me from loving others wholeheartedly?
Father in Heaven, I pray hearts to be open to hear your voice on anything in their world that might keep them from loving you greater and reflecting your love to others in their world as well. In Jesus name, amen!
