Why Do I Still Feel Anxious After Praying?
Do you feel anxious after praying? You’ve heard it said: Don’t worry: pray. Today’s Faith Friday discusses how to manage anxiety and nurture your faith after you pray. We also discuss the importance of shifting your focus, the detrimental effects of worry, and the profound significance of believing in God. Join us as we unpack these key takeaways and guide you through the transformative journey of strengthening your relationship with God. Let’s dive in.
Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Four Quick Practices to Get Rid of Anxiety After Praying
1- Be Grateful:
Develop a heart of gratitude for what God has already done for you. When we thank God for something, we put ourselves in remembrance of what He has done in the past. This is why I’m telling you don’t worry, pray. Gratitude unlocks faith and helps you not be anxious after praying.
2- Fix Your Focus:
Let’s discuss the transformative power of shifting our focus. Instead of fixating on the immediate solution, I encourage you to contemplate the incredible characteristics of God: His faithfulness, mercy, gentleness, kindness, and goodness. It’s like gaining an aerial perspective, much like looking down on a city from an airplane, allowing you to see the bigger picture by focusing on the nature of God.
3- Don’t Worry: Pray – Don’t Allow Worry to Sabotage Your Faith:
Consider this: Worry can actively sabotage your prayers. Remember the sage advice, “If you’re going to pray about it, don’t worry about it; if you’re going to worry about it, don’t pray about it.” It’s crucial to challenge and redirect those negative, anxiety-inducing thoughts. One of the reasons many are anxious after praying is because they allow worry to undo the very prayers they’ve earnestly made.
4- Embrace Real Faith:
Faith isn’t just a word; it’s a powerful force. We must emphasize the importance of believing not only in God’s existence but also in His role as the One who rewards those who genuinely seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). So, I encourage you today, regardless of your circumstances, to trust in God, to have unwavering faith, and to believe in His promises.
Faith Allows You to Pray Without Anxiety
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Often times we pray for things and fail to thank God for what he’s already done. But when we pray instead of worry, we remind ourselves of all God has done in the past and what he is capable of doing in the future.
