How to Pray for Everything in Your Life in Less than 5 Minutes!

Is your day so hectic that you don’t have time to pray? In this Faith Friday episode, we’re unpacking two prayer acronyms on how to pray in less than five minutes. Praying effectively and efficiently, even amidst a busy life is not only possible but highly beneficial. Prayer doesn’t have to be ultra time-consuming and should be a meaningful conversation with your Creator. It will grow into a longer conversation without you realizing it.

It’s important that we pray for more than just ourselves. I’m sharing two acronyms that will help you to pray in a short amount of time for nearly everything in your life. When we pray, we should always approach God with praise or thanksgiving. Psalm 100:1-2, 4 reminders of how to approach God in prayer.

Psalm 100

A Psalm of Thanksgiving

1 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!

2 Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.

Prayer Acronyms

Acronyms are very helpful when we need to remember how to do something. Prayer should not be rote, but learning an acronym or two can help you to focus your prayer life and make your prayers more efficient. The first acronym I share is an oldie but goodie.

P-R-A-Y

  • P for Praise: Start with praise, thanking God for who He is and what He’s done in your life.
  • R for Repent: Acknowledge your sin to God and seek His forgiveness.
  • A for Ask: Present your requests and desires to God. What is it that you want/need? God loves it when we ask.
  • Y for Yield: Conclude your prayer time by yielding to God’s will, not your own.

Another acronym I learned recently (thanks to my cousin who made it up) is TRIPS. Very similar to the PRAY acronym, TRIPS adds in a couple of other elements that help us to keep the focus off of ourselves and include others in our prayers.

T-R-I-P-S

  • T for Thanksgiving: Begin with gratitude. God has been good to you. What can you thank him for?
  • R for Repentance: Repent for your sins and seek the cleansing of the Holy Spirit.
  • I for Intercede: Pray for others, putting their needs before yours. One of the most Christ-like things we do is to pray for one another.
  • P for Personal Petitions: Present your own requests and concerns. Again, God wants to hear what you ask of him. So ask.
  • S for Sit Still and Listen: Create space to listen to what God might say to you through His word and other means.

I hope these prayer acronyms offer a practical way how to pray in less than five minutes! Make prayer a vital part of your daily routine, regardless of how busy life may seem. Start with this baseline and then develop a rich prayer life that deepens your connection with God. Effective and efficient prayer is critical to maintaining a solid faith journey.
