How Fear & Faith Influence Your Future

Fear is a natural response to danger. But it can also paralyze your progress. In this  Faith Friday episode, we’re drawing parallels between fear and faith. Listen as we share insights from scripture and offer practical encouragement for dealing with fear and choosing faith over fear.

Understanding Fear and Faith

Fear is a natural response to danger and is essential in healthy doses. However, there is a difference between healthy fear and the harmful impacts of allowing fear to control our circumstances. This pivotal distinction sets the stage for recognizing the parallels between fear and faith.

The main difference between fear and faith is that fear is placing trust in a negative future and faith is placing trust in a positive future. This perspective encourages us to be introspective about where we are placing our trust and how it impacts our outlook on life and relationships.

Fear as Prelude to Greatness

Here’s an intriguing reflection on fear . . . what if it is the prelude to greatness? There are various scriptural examples, emphasizing how fear has been a common thread in the lives of spiritual ancestors who achieved extraordinary exploits in God. It’s important to consider fear as a catalyst for unlocking potential rather than viewing it as a hindrance.

Empowering Scriptures for Overcoming Fear

Two impactful scriptures to meditate on during times of fear are Psalm 56:3 and Joshua 1:9.

Psalm 56:3 – Whenever I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.

The psalmist reassures us that when fear arises, we can choose to place our trust in God. The verse acts as a guiding light, reminding us of the choice we have in where we direct our trust and belief during challenging moments.

Similarly, the verse from Joshua 1:9 exhorts us to have faith over fear.

Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

We can be strong and courageous when we understand the ever-present nature of God in our lives. The empowering nature of these scriptures serves as a source of solace and strength during times of fear, emphasizing the importance of drawing from faith to combat fear.

Embracing Identity in Christ

A pivotal takeaway from this episode is the encouragement to embrace strength as a choice and identity, rather than a fleeting feeling. As believers, we are strong in Christ. We are empowered to navigate fear with steadfast determination, knowing that God, our loving, protective Father is constantly by our side.
