1. Give the Gift of Presence

In a world filled with distractions, we must offer the gift of presence to our spouses. With the constant influx of responsibilities and concerns, it’s essential to carve out moments where you wholeheartedly focus on your partner. Whether it’s putting your phone away, making eye contact, or actively listening, being present communicates your unwavering support and care.

2. Be Supportive and Show Up

As I reflect on my own marriage, I can say Shaun is one of the most supportive people I know. He shows up for me, and it makes our connection stronger.  Whether attending school events, offering assistance where needed, or exploring your partner’s hobbies or dreams, demonstrating support through actions and words fosters a nurturing and affirming environment. Fend ways to actively engage and uplift your spouse, fostering a sense of teamwork and shared dedication.

3. Anticipate Your Spouse’s Needs

Anticipating your spouse’s needs involves an intentional and empathetic approach to understanding their desires and challenges. By paying attention to subtle cues and expressions, you can proactively support and assist your spouse without needing explicit requests. Whether it’s taking on a household chore without being asked or providing comfort during a rough day, anticipating needs strengthens the emotional fabric of your relationship.

4. Notice New Things in Your Marriage

I can’t stress the importance of observing and appreciating the changes in your spouse and your relationship. Whether it’s a change in appearance, a shift in mood, or a newly discovered interest, paying attention to these nuances signifies an invested and caring attitude. By actively noticing these variations, you demonstrate a deep understanding and keen interest in your spouse’s journey and growth.

We wrap up the episode with some perspectives from real-world couples, who embody this value of attentiveness, support, and joy in their marriages. The insights from Mike and Colleen, Linda and Jeremy, and Joy and Dave offer a glimpse into the diversity of experiences and approaches to cultivating a fulfilling partnership.

If you need help because your marriage is struggling, it may be time to reach out for marriage coaching. I truly believe everyone has the potential to create an ‘awesomely attentive’ marriage.
