Miley Cyrus- Time Magazine Person of the Year Say What

Miley Cyrus- Time Magazine Person of the Year: Say What?!

I thought I had seen it all this year, from the tragic, boney Miley Cyrus rendition of the “twerk” to the awful Sharkeisha fight video. What is going on with the Millennials? It seems everyone is screaming for attention, and the louder you scream, the more attention you get. With the explosion of social media sites like YouTube, Instagram and Twitter, all an attention-starved young person needs to do is do something stupid or risky, video it and within minutes, it can go viral, further feeding the insatiable appetite of the ego.

And for what? Just to get that momentary feeling that they matter . . . that their name can become a household name in a matter of hours?

As I was listening to the radio this morning and heard that Miley Cyrus is actually being considered for Time Magazine’s s Person of the Year 2013, I gagged. Why?! What has this girl done so wonderful, so influential, so life-changing that a magazine that recognizes the greats of President Obama and Pope Francis would even consider her in the same company.

If Time is trying to appeal to a younger generation, fine. But surely there are more reputable celebs that have actually made a positive difference in this world than Miley Cyrus.

And before you get all defensive and say I’m judging, I’m not. I don’t know Miley, I don’t’ dislike her. I’m not even against her twerking . . . in a dark room where no one can see her . . . It’s not about liking or disliking, it’s about giving honor to whom honor is due. And I’m not quite seeing why or how honor is due her.

It’s about giving honor to whom honor is due.

Time Magazine’s Person of the Year Nominees 2013

Take a look at the Person of the Year list . . .

Bashar Assad, President of Syria

Jeff Bezos, Amazon Founder

Ted Cruz, Texas Senator

Miley Cyrus, Singer

Pope Francis, Leader of the Catholic Church

Barack Obama, President of the United States

Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran

Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services

Edward Snowden, N.S.A. Leader

Edith Windsor, Gay rights activist

Am I missing something here??? My eyebrows have been furrowed all day. Really, I think a better selection would be her public relations manager. This whole over-sexed image of Miley Cyrus has sure gotten a LOT of attention. And as they say in Hollywood, “all attention is good attention.” I can’t believe I’m actually writing a post about this girl. I’m part of the problem! LOL.

All I can say is that if Miley Cyrus wins Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2013, the Millennial generation is really in trouble. Why go to school to learn anything at all? Why be concerned with morals or values? Why not just invest in a good video camera, take off your clothes and . . . it worked for Miley.

What do you think? Am I being too harsh or are your eyebrows furrowed too?

Signed,

A Concerned Mother and Defender of The Real “Twerk”
